Program Note: The piece divides the gamelan into two groups; one playing sensuous slowly moving harmonies while the other interjects with funky percussive patterns that build in intensity over the course of the piece. The two groups interact with each other throughout the piece, combining techniques from both Javanese and Balinese music, as well as contemporary classical and rock music. This piece is dedicated to the Javanese and Balinese gamelan teachers that I have worked with over the last few years: Midiyanto, Dewa Berata, Ben Brinner, and Lisa Gold.
